The "Heathers" reboot series has been delayed following last month's mass school shooting in Florida.
Paramount Network made the decision to push back the March launch date out of respect to the victims and their families affected by the Parkland massacre, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The cable network said in a statement to the Huffington Post that the remake of the '80s cult classic was a satirical comedy that undertook creative risks that dealt with challenging social subjects such as personal identity, race and gun violence.
"While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year," the spokesperson said.
Since the mass shooting, which resulted in the deaths of 17 students and school staff members, the topic of gun control has taken center stage.
Student survivors have called for responsible gun control legislation and have organized a "March for Our Lives" rally in Washington D.C. this month.
In light of this, Paramount Network's decision to delay the premier of "Heathers" was a reasonable decision.
A new launch date has not been announced for the 10-episode comedic anthology however, The Hollywood Reporter noted that it would be later this year.
The original film focused on Veronica, who was played by Winona Ryder, and her boyfriend J.D., played by Christian Slater, and documented the highs and lows of school life as the couple tried to establish their social order.
According to Deadline, the revamped series will follow "good girl" Veronica Sawyer, who has her own set of trials and tribulations to face.
