Henry Solis Manhunt Ends With Ex-LAPD Officer's Arrest in Mexico

By    |   Wednesday, 27 May 2015 10:23 AM EDT

Henry Solis, the ex-LAPD officer suspected in a March homicide, was caught in Mexico Tuesday after a two-month manhunt.

Solis, 27, was arrested and turned over to the FBI and U.S. Marshals for the death of Salome Rodriguez, 23, who was killed in a shooting after a bar fight in Pomona, California, in March, CNN reported. He's accused of chasing the victim and firing multiple shots.

Solis was captured in Ciudad Juarez, located across the border from El Paso, Texas, and now faces murder charges as well as a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told CNN.

Chihuahua state authorities told the Los Angeles Times that Solis resisted arrest on Tuesday.

Solis reportedly said he knew his capture was coming “sooner or later,” Mexican officials said at a news conference, the Times noted.

State police official Pablo Ernesto Rocha Acosta informed the Times that Solis was “hidden among relatives” in the El Mezquital neighborhood. Acosta said technology, field work, and communication with U.S. authorities resulted in his arrest.

An altercation in March during the early hours of the morning resulted in Rodriguez's murder, police reported to CNN at the time.

Solis reportedly called his dad Victor after the shooting, who then drove him to El Paso.

Special FBI agent Scott Garriola told CNN in March that Victor Solis said his son made incriminating remarks and also told him he would not be seen again.

Several weeks after the shooting, Solis’ father was arrested for making false statements to the FBI.

According to the FBI, Henry Solis is a Marine veteran and records show he served in Iraq from April to November 2007, and also received several medals.

Lidia Rodriguez, the victim’s mother, told the Times she is waiting for a trial.

“The first day, I’ll be there,” she said. “I want him to see my family and who he killed.”
