"E.T." actor Henry Thomas managed to avoid jail time by accepting a plea deal following a DUI arrest.
The former child star allegedly pleaded no contest to driving under the influence and reckless driving after he was arrested on Oct. 21 in Oregon, TMZ reported.
At the time, officers found Thomas passed out behind the steering wheel of his vehicle and had to wake him. They quickly realized he had been drinking and he was charged with a misdemeanor DUI, according to Fox News.
Thomas may have avoided time behind bars but he is liable to pay a $500 fine and is required to enter a diversion program for an entire year. Furthermore, he will have to fit his vehicle with an ignition interlock device to prevent repeat offenses and has to attend a one-time victim impact panel.
Thomas has starred in several films and series, including Netflix's "The Haunting of Hill House," but his most memorable performance remains Elliot in Steven Spielberg's 1982 film "E.T."
The role catapulted Thomas to fame, but he admitted there were times he regretted "being the kid in E.T."
In a previous interview with The Mirror, he described how his world "went completely crazy." He would get mobbed by fans whenever he went out and said he began to feel like a circus freak.
"But the only time I had to deal with it was when I left the house. So I stopped leaving the house. I became an 11-year-old hermit," Thomas said.
Thomas managed to overcome his fear of the crowds, and despite the fame he managed to live a relatively clean life free from drugs and partying. It is unclear what prompted him to drive under the influence of alcohol last month, but there have been few other reported mishaps.
