Hope Solo's domestic violence trial has been scheduled for Jan. 20.
The judge scheduled the trial during a hearing on Tuesday at which the U.S. women’s soccer goalkeeper was present
, Reuters reported.
Solo, 33, pleaded not guilty to two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence for allegedly striking her adult sister and 17-year-old nephew in June.
During Tuesday's hearing, Kirkland Municipal Court Judge Michael Lambo said that Solo’s attorney, Todd Maybrown, should be allowed to interview her sister and nephew in the presence of a court stenographer, Reuters noted. They had previously refused to be interviewed with a stenographer present.
Solo's nephew told police that his aunt was drinking and in a bad mood on June 20, when the
incident occurred, The Seattle Times reported.
Solo and her nephew exchanged insults before Solo allegedly charged him, punched him in the face, and tackled him, the newspaper reported. When his mother intervened, Solo allegedly attacked her, too, according to the report. The teen reportedly broke a wooden broom over Solo’s head and pointed a broken BB gun at her.
Solo faces up to six months in jail if convicted, Reuters said.
But Maybrown insists that Solo was
acting in self-defense, according to King 5 News.
Prosecutors may use a video of Solo's jail booking during Solo's trial, the station reported.
