Doctors have released award-winning country music veteran Randy Travis from Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital in Plano, Texas, where he underwent brain surgery following a stroke while being treated for a heart ailment.

Travis will now spend time at a physical therapy facility as he continues to bounce back from the viral heart infection that left him hospitalized since July 7, according to USA Today.

The singer suffered a stroke July 10 that required surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

Travis's doctors said on July 15 that based on images of Randy's heart, it was more likely that a family history of cardiomyopathy was to blame for his ongoing heart trouble, reported TMZ.com. Doctors at the time said Travis was using a ventilator to breathe but had showed steady improvement.

Mary Davis, Travis' fiancée, said on July 15 that the singer was warmed by the outpouring of support.

"I just want to thank the friends, the family, the outpouring of love and affection that has shown up at the hospital and at home and through several different avenues of support," Davis said in a statement on the singer's website randytravis.com.

"I know that Randy feels each and every one of those," wrote Davis on the website. "He feels the hands of the doctors and the care of the nurses and the love of his fans. His friends and family have all been touched by that. He is responding well to voices and he sees and he understands. He’s miles beyond where any of us thought he would be a few days ago."

Travis was also bouncing back from a brush with the law. Last August, he was charged with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly crashed his car and was found naked at the scene, according to BBC News.

In the August incident, Grayson County (Texas) Sheriff's Office reported that Travis had threatened to kill arresting officers and refused sobriety tests but a blood sample was taken instead.

"Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication," a statement from the sheriff's office said.

Travis's career began his career in the mid-1980s, has won seven Grammys and several Country Music Association awards, per the BBC News.
