Dog Rescued: Hot Tar Hardened to 'Rock Solid' in Puppy's Fur (Video)

A dog that fell into hot tar near a construction site in India was rescued following a lengthy ordeal.

CNN reported the 5-month-old puppy was motionless and covered in tar when a passerby spotted it and called animal welfare group Animal Aid Unlimited in Udaipur, India.

The tar covering the dog’s body had cooled and hardened, and the animal was stuck to the ground. Rescuers worked vegetable oil into the dog’s fur, slowly loosening and pulling away the tar. It took them four hours to free the pup and days to clear his fur of the tar, CNN reported. They have named him Tar Baby.

The cooled tar coating the dog’s fur was “hard as rock” rescuers said, according to The Daily Mail.

The dog was unable to move during the rescue, and is seen blinking and trying to look around.

Animal Aid Unlimited was established in 2002 and has rescued more than 45,000 injured or ill dogs, cows, donkeys, birds and cats.

Twitter users cheered for the dog.
