Howard Fineman announced he is leaving HuffPost as its global editorial director to work for NBC News.
In a holiday memo to the staff, Fineman stated he will be writing pieces for NBC News “on politics, in Washington and nationally, and on other topics, starting the week of Jan. 8,” according to The Wrap.
Fineman added the move will be smooth because of his “longtime relationship with NBC and MSNBC on broadcast and cable.”
Fineman was among the high-profile personnel hired by HuffPost when it was a small digital site and before it evolved into a major news outlet that included in-depth reporting and blogging, according to Business Insider. He joined the publication in 2010 from Newsweek following an invitation by HuffPost founder Arianna Huffington.
During its rapid growth, HuffPost dealt with newsroom upheavals and frequent layoffs, according to The Wrap.
However, Fineman said in his memo: “I have been in and worked in a lot of newsrooms, and there is NO PLACE where people care about and cheer for each other the way HuffPosters do. I am proud and thankful to have been part of all this.”
Fineman’s career with Newsweek began as a correspondent before he moved up to senior editor prior to his move to the HuffPost. He has often been seen on political news shows, many of them on NBC, offering his political analysis.
