Hulk Hogan was fired by WWE on Friday without explanation, but many reports suggest it had something to do with a racial incident.

"WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan)," the pro wrestling organization said in a statement obtained by Sports Illustrated. "WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers, and fans worldwide."

Hogan seemed to confirm the firing with a cryptic tweet on Friday morning.

As The Daily Beast reported, fans seemed to notice late Thursday that Hogan's page on WWE.com was gone from the site.

Some speculated that the firing had something to do with an October 2012 interview with Hogan wherein he discussed race.

In speaking about fellow wrestler Booker T and other black men, Hogan said at the time, "They're all calling me n***** and then I started saying it and you know, I always said it but now all of a sudden I get heat when I said it."

Others said that because the interview was so old, it was unlikely WWE would fire him for it now, and cited unverified reports that the firing had something to do with Hogan's ongoing lawsuit against Gawker.com, which previously published a homemade sex tape of his.
