'Hump Day' Ad Goes Viral After Jay Leno's Obama Spoof (Video)

By    |   Wednesday, 09 October 2013 10:19 AM EDT

The Geico "Hump Day" commercial has officially gone viral after Jay Leno created a version starring President Barack Obama and debuted it on his show Tuesday night.

In the bit, Leno complains about how overt product placement is in television. He then cuts to a clip of Obama speaking about how many jobs Obamacare has created and all of a sudden, in strolls the famous camel shouting his tagline, "Uh oh! Guess what day it is!"

The "Hump Day" commercial, which is nearing 16 million views on YouTube, has become a cultural phenomenon, much like Life cereal's "He likes it! Hey Mikey!" and Wendy's "Where's the beef?"

The ad, which doesn't really have anything to do with auto insurance, shows a camel walking through an office. "Guess what day it is!" he yells to his annoyed co-workers.

"Julie, hey, guess what day it is! Come on, I know you can hear me!"

"Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike! What day is it, Mike?"

"It's hump day," one exasperated employee finally says.

Then the tagline: "How happy are folks who save hundreds of dollars switching to Geico? …Happier than a camel on Wednesday."

The camel then lets out one final "Humpppp dayyyyy yeahhhhh!"

The commercial has become so popular that students across the country are reportedly yelling "Hump Day" and disrupting their classes. Some teachers at Vernon Center Middle School in Hartford, Conn., have even banned the phrase.

"Everybody's walking around in the hallways and saying, 'It's hump day,' in that weird voice," Brooke Lewis, a Vernon Center student, told ABC News.
