A North Carolina hunter killed a 500-pound wild hog that was more than 8 feet long in an experience he describes as “surreal.”
“It was a shock,” Jett Webb told WNCT 9. “It was humbling to say the least. When you walk up on a beast that big and you say, ‘Oh my gosh, I had no idea there could be something that big running around the woods of eastern North Carolina.’”

The huge hog was a wanted creature in the area, as other hunters had seen him on a trail camera several years ago, WNCT said. But Webb was the one to hunt him down and bag him last month.
A photo of Webb posed behind the boar showed clearly how small a man seemed beside the animal’s mass. The hog is so big that some online have accused Webb of Photoshopping the picture.
He killed the animal with one shot from a .308-caliber AR-15 rifle.
A typical wild boar will weigh between 100 and 200 pounds.
“It takes your breath away for a second to realize how big this hog is,” Mike Mansell, the president of the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club where Webb killed the boar, told WNCT. “It took up the entire bed of the pickup truck.”
"We’re not going to waste anything,” Webb told the station. “That pig will provide food for me and my family for a good year. I just set out to try to put a little meat in the freezer, but afterwards, I was completely blown away.”
Other large boars have jumped into the media spotlight at their deaths, including “Hogzilla,” who got his own National Geographic special and weighed in at an estimated 800 pounds.
A boy out hunting with his father apparently killed a
wild hog that weighed in at more than 1,000 pounds, Fox News reported in 2007.
