Ice Cube: Paul Walker Remark Downplayed After MTV Movie Awards

By    |   Tuesday, 15 April 2014 11:08 AM EDT

Rapper turned actor Ice Cube is backtracking from his controversial comment about Paul Walker after the MTV Movie Awards over the weekend, saying he never meant to disrespect the late actor.

Walker and Vin Diesel won the award for Best Onscreen Duo for "Fast & Furious 6" at Sunday night's awards show, beating out Ice Cube and Kevin Hart's "Ride Along" partnership.

"We was robbed," Ice Cube told USA Today following the ceremony. "Shame on you MTV. We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated, for us not to win was crazy. We were the best onscreen duo, period. They should have gave it to [Walker] before he passed away."

Walker died in a violent car accident while leaving a charity fundraiser in Southern California in November. An investigation in March determined that the car's speed was the main factor in crash.

After facing backlash for his comments from Walker's fans, Ice Cube took back his remarks Monday.

"I wasn't really mad we didn't win. So I would never diss the actors who won. Not even Paul Walker," he told TMZ.

Ice Cube also issued a series of tweets trying to clear up his comments.

Fans responded.
