Idina Menzel, "Frozen" star and Broadway actress, was honored last week at Variety's Power of Women event in New York for her work with the charity, A Broader Way.

Menzel, 42, joined Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Sarandon, and A&E president and CEO Nancy Dubac as this year's Inspiration Impact Honorees.

"We're thrilled to continue building on the legacy of Variety’s Power of Women by bringing the event to New York," Variety publisher Michelle Sobrino-Stearns said in a statement. "The debut of Variety’s Power of Women in New York is a testament to the impact of the annual event held in Los Angeles and, with celebrations now on both coasts, we have the distinct privilege to continue honoring these incredible women who have influenced our industry and communities, and who are harnessing the power of giving back to inspire others to do the same."

Menzel was recognized for her work with A Broader Way, a charity she co-created that helps bring arts programs to urban girls.

"There's a beautiful intimacy about the camp [A Broader Way]," Menzel said at Friday's ceremony. "The counselors perform that first night, to show the girls they can make themselves vulnerable. It's about using the arts to help girls find their own voice. There's a lot of young women who don't know how to use their voice literally and figuratively. These girls get to be the authors of their own life."

Menzel, a Tony Award-winning Broadway actress, was also honored at this year's Academy Awards when "Let It Go," which she sang for "Frozen," won Best Original Song.
