Bill Nye "The Science Guy" is facing an uphill battle in ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" after he suffered a torn ligament during a mid-routine fall in Monday's show.

An ABC representative made the official announcement that the science show host is currently on ice, according to E! News.

"We can confirm Bill Nye was injured during his performance last night and is currently seeking medical attention," the representative told E! News. "We will continue to keep you posted on his progress."

Now the "hurt guy," Nye posted on Twitter that he and his partner Tyne Stecklein were traveling but not sure how much practice they'd get in.

The Associated Press reported that Nye, 57, and Stecklein, who performed a paso doble routine, received 17 out of 30 possible judges' points on Monday's show. Former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson and his partner became the first couple eliminated from the competition, according to ABC News.

"What I love is that you worked with what you’ve got – your assets, you kind of made fun of yourself while you were dancing a little bit," Stecklein to Nye, according to ABC News. "It was like a weird sort of bizarre masterpiece of insanity and I thought it totally worked but we do have to work on your feet."

Johnson told ABC News he lost 20 pounds in his 3 ½ weeks of dancing with his pro dancing partner Shana Burgess and he has a lot of respect for the dancers who do this for a living.

"It really is harder than football," Johnson told ABC News' "Good Morning America. "All of a sudden you’re a grown man and you’re stepping out against these guys that are like 5-foot-9, 145 pounds, and you’re like 230-plus pounds and you’re trying to move like them and it’s totally different."

The Associated Press said injuries are commonplace for "Dancing With the Stars." Olympic volleyball player Misty May-Treanor was forced to withdraw from the show after tearing her Achilles tendon during rehearsals. Last year, Melissa Gilbert suffered from whiplash and a mild concussion after her paso doble dance. The Huffington Post reported that Valerie Harper also injured her knee while working on her dance routine.
