Jack Nicklaus loves ice cream and this week the pro golfer turned his passion for the cold treat into a new business with the launch of Jack Nicklaus Ice Cream.
Nicklaus announced a partnership with
The Schwan Food Co. on his website Wednesday, and said the ice cream will be available in Kroger, Winn-Dixie, and Bi-Lo stores in March.
Donations from sales of the pint-sized containers of seven flavors, including Warm Spiced Butter Pecan and Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl, will support children’s charities,
including the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.
“It’s no secret that I love ice cream,” Nicklaus said in the website press release. “Needless to say, I have never had so much fun in the research and development of a product. The team at Schwan has a world-class product development center. Together, we have created a variety of flavors — all with real ingredients — for a quality, premium ice cream at a value price.”
Nicklaus is known for producing other products, all with a philanthropic tie-in. Nicklaus-branded or licensed items include water, wine, lemonade, sunglasses, and golf balls, the release said.
The new ice cream was clearly a winner with Nicklaus’ fans and friends, who went online to share their approval.
Called by his nickname “The Golden Bear,” Nicklaus is considered one of the best golfers of all time. In March, near the same time as his ice cream launch, he will be honored with a Congressional Gold Medal by the U.S. House and Senate in honor of his lifetime achievements.
