Jake Paul, a Vine and YouTube star who also had a role on the Disney Channel TV show “Bizaardvark,” has announced that he will split with Disney amid controversy over stunts that have upset his neighbors.
Paul, 20, rose to internet fame posting videos of outrageous antics and dares online, much like his character Dirk in the TV show. According to the New York Daily News, he had recently asked for more time off from the show in order to grow his online fan base, which currently boasts 8.7 million Instagram followers and 8.8 million YouTube subscribers.
In his Twitter announcement, Paul said he wanted to focus on his “personal brand,” online presence, and “more adult acting roles,” and that he had “big things in the works.”
Paul did not mention that his neighbors plan to meet next week with city leaders and police to talk about filing a joint public nuisance lawsuit against him because of stunts he has pulled in the neighborhood, including setting furniture on fire in an empty pool with resulting flames going higher than his house and riding his motorcycle loudly down the street where he lives, Adweek reported.
Paul also gives out his address to fans publicly online, leading to many impromptu visits that also cause commotion in the neighborhood.
One of his neighbors, Maytal Dahan, told KTLA, “It used to be a really nice, quiet street and now we’re just this like, war zone. We’re families here, and we’re more than happy to have them live here if they’re responsible with their neighbors, but they’re not.”
Fans on Twitter said they would miss Paul on the show but wished him well.
