James Costello, Boston Marathon Survivor, Marries His Nurse

By    |   Thursday, 28 August 2014 07:59 AM EDT

James Costello, an injured Boston Marathon survivor, found a silver lining in the ordeal when he married Krista D'Agostino, a nurse who treated him at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital after multiple surgeries for burns and shrapnel.

Wedding planner Rachel Gross, of Lolagrace Events, and the Hyatt donated the services and the venue, according to the Boston Globe.

"It was such a true representation of their character, their style, and their love," Gross told the Globe. "Everyone was soaring, soaring."

The couple gave as well, deciding to make a donation to the Semper Fi Foundation to help provide a military couple with the means to have a wedding in lieu of favors, wrote the Globe.

"They just want to give someone a special moment like we've given them," Gross said to the newspaper.

In December, the couple talked about their chance meeting at Spaulding on the "Today" show when Costello was there for rehab while D'Agostino was working a temporary six-week assignment at the facility as a traveling nurse.

"Today" reported that Costello had several surgeries, including several skin grafts, and met D'Agostino during his recovery phase.

"I had noticed her in passing, and shortly after that she came into my room to cover a lunch break and change the dressing on my leg, and still no thoughts of (romance),'' Costello told "Today." "Then, after we realized we had some mutual friends, we started talking, and I invited her to a benefit."

D'Agostino admitted that she was drawn to his smile, "Today" reported.

"One thing that she hates that I always say is I'm actually glad I got blown up,'' Costello said on the morning show. "I wish everyone else didn't have to, but I don’t think I would have ever met her if I didn't, so I'm pretty happy."

"I do hate when he says that,'' a smiling D'Agostino added.

Costello told "Today" that the worst moments of his life turned out to be a blessing in disguise because he and D'Agostino became inseparable and he eventually proposed during a 10-day trip to France.
