James Taylor National Anthem Starts Out Wrong at World Series (Video)

James Taylor National Anthem Starts Out Wrong at World Series (Video)

Longtime folk singer James Taylor tried to bounce back gracefully after he started to sing "American the Beautiful" instead of the "Star-Spangled Banner" at the beginning of Game 2 of the World Series in Boston on Thursday night.

Fox News reported that the five-time Grammy Award winner, 65, was scheduled to play "America the Beautiful" during the seventh inning of the game, so that may be where the mix up came from. As a YouTube video shows (below), Taylor smoothly transitions into the National Anthem once he realized his mistake.

"Now, it’s not clear if Taylor forgot the song he was singing," Nate Scott, of USA Today, wrote Thursday. "The transition is so smooth and so quick, it might have just been Taylor taking some creative license at the beginning of the song, a little flourish to remind everyone out there that he’s James Taylor and he can do that sort of thing. Or he just got really cold and forgot the song."

While Taylor recovered quickly, it was noticed by game watchers who shared their thoughts on Twitter.

Later, Boston Marathon bombing survivors stood on the field during the seventh inning stretch as Taylor led the crowd in "America the Beautiful," wrote Fox News.

Taylor's hits like "Fire and Rain," "You've Got a Friend" and "Handy Man" made him one of the most popular artists in the 1970s, according to Rolling Stone. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, according to Fox.
