A Florida woman reportedly wore a wire to gather “key” information during conversations with Jared Fogle, leading to a Tuesday raid on the suspended Subway spokesman’s home.
According to Fox 59, federal authorities confirmed that the woman, who has not been identified, offered information that was critical to the investigation of Fogle in connection to a child pornography investigation.
The
woman told WWSB she had a decade-long association with Fogle and, during that time, he made inappropriate comments.
"He said something to me when we were off-camera and that really stuck with me. I thought to myself, 'did he really say that to me?'" she told WWSB, adding that the comments led her to contact the FBI. "The subject matter is similar to what the FBI found when they raided his home. It goes deeper than that."
At the present, Fogle is not under arrest or charged with any crime. The Tuesday raid on his home was believed to be related to the child pornography case involving Russell Taylor, the former director of Fogle’s Jared Foundation who was arrested in April, Fox 59 said.
According to court records, officials found videos showing children’s genitals, apparently taken when the children were unaware, at Taylor’s Indianapolis home during a raid prior to his arrest in April,
The Daily Mail reported.
"Following Taylor's arrest, the Jared Foundation cut all ties with the former executive director and Fogle issued a statement saying he was 'shocked' by the allegations," the Mail wrote.
The woman who wore the wire and recorded telephone conversations with Fogle told WWSB she was glad to help with the investigation.
"It was the right thing to do, and I was able to do it and I have fortitude to do it. That's the main reason I did this," she said.
Fox 59 said Subway announced on Tuesday, after Fogle’s house was raided, that they were suspending him from his position as spokesperson.
