The website said that including test preparation and taking exams like the SAT and ACT, students could end up paying at least $678.
Harrison, with the help her mother and high school faculty members, were able to slash those costs by apply for all 53 Historically Black Colleges and Universities with one Common Black College Application, WFMY-TV reported. She won 26 acceptance letters that route.
During the College Foundation of North Carolina College Application Week, she was apple to apply to several North Carolina institutions for free. She was able to apply for 20 more colleges by filling out one form on The Common Application website.
"On those late nights when I was filling out those applications with my mom and we just felt like we cannot do this, we just ended up singing gospel songs together to get through the night," Harrison told WFMY-TV.
"When I got the first couple in the mail, I was like, 'Okay, this is really happening.' I didn't really think I'd be able to do that," Harrison added.
