Comedian Jeff Ross has been accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage girl more than 20 years ago, but the 54-year-old stand-up comic has firmly denied the claims. Taking to social media on Monday, Ross said the story was "old news" that had been thoroughly investigated and disproven and that he will sue his accuser.
"The witnesses and evidence do not support these despicable allegations," Ross wrote in a statement shared to Twitter, adding that the accuser and her husband had been harassing him for years.
Ross was referring to controversy that emerged last week after a Twitter user with the handle @PallaviGunalan shared video footage from a woman claiming that a 33-year-old Ross had a sexual relationship with her when she was 15. @PallaviGunalan added that Ross also allegedly "raped" the woman "while she was sleeping."
Ross threatened legal action against his accuser.
"I intend to take legal action based on these untrue, horrific allegations because no one, no matter how sick they are, should be allowed to continue to try and benefit from false stories while attempting to destroy others," he wrote.
"The dangerous environment currently being exposed at the comedy clubs is real," he continued, adding that, although those accusations were false, he wanted there to be no doubt of his "commitment to victims of sexual assault."
The allegations against Ross emerged shortly after comedian Chris D'Elia was accused of pursuing underage women and of committing sexual harassment. The 40-year-old insisted the claims were not true.
