Jenna Bush Hager announced Monday that she and her husband are expecting their second child together, a baby girl due in August.
The daughter of former President George W. Bush, who works as an NBC News correspondent, made her announcement on “The Today Show” with the help of her almost-2-year-old daughter Mila.
In the clip, Bush Hager points to her stomach and says, “What’s in here, Mi?” Her daughter, a little distracted by a nearby book, says, “A baby sister.”
Bush Hager told People magazine that she and her husband, Henry Hager, were ready to make the announcement.
“We’re so excited,” she told People. “I’m ready to tell the world! I appreciate life so much more as a mom. And I feel so lucky. I know how wonderful motherhood is and that makes it so much sweeter.”
NBC’s Natalie Morales posted congratulations to the couple on Twitter, along with a video joking about the joy of having sons.
“She’s excited now. She definitely likes attention,” Bush Hager joked to her "Today" colleagues about Mila. “Baby Sissy in theory is this great thing in her mother’s tummy. When Baby Sissy comes out, she may change her mind really, really fast.”
Bush Hager said that her husband and her father both just “melt” over Mila. “He goes by jefe, which means boss in Spanish,” she said of the former president. “But really what happens, is Mila just bosses jefe around.”
