Jennette McCurdy, the actress who starred in the Nickelodeon series "Sam & Cat" with
now-pop star Ariana Grande, told E! News this week that there is no bad blood between her and her former co-star, contrary to tabloid gossip.
Deadline.com reported last year that McCurdy and Grande began to have problems as the future of their teen sitcom became more and more uncertain.
The showbiz website blamed the rift on McCurdy's racy photo scandal and Grande's blossoming music career.
"I hear things came to a head last week when the show came close to a shutdown," Deadline.com wrote in April 2014. "Then this past weekend, McCurdy publicly accused Nickelodeon of unfair treatment. She also fueled speculation about a rift with longtime best friend Grande by un-following Grande on social media and not joining her co-star at Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, where both were nominated for favorite TV actress."
Though "Sam & Cat" was canceled in July, McCurdy set the record straight this week in an interview with E! News, brushing off any tension between her and Grande.
"I just feel that, you know Ariana and I were and are extremely close and very like-minded in a lot of different ways and then, sorta as the show dissolved, everybody wanted to find some sort of hidden meaning in our relationship," she said.
"Some like drama and I think we butted heads at times but in a very sisterly way. She knows me so well and I know her so well that I think it was unfortunate that things kind of got misconstrued."
McCurdy said she and Grande formed a strong bond after spending so much time working together.
"I can't imagine a world where you would not come out extreme friends," McCurdy said. "I mean I have bonds with both Miranda Cosgrove and Ariana that are impenetrable."
McCurdy is scheduled to appear in the upcoming Netflix series "Between," which will premiere May 21. The streaming service plans to release the six-part drama one episode at a time on a weekly basis instead of the
entire series at one, according to TV Guide.
