Jennifer Lopez Hit With Lawsuit Over Too-Sexy Performance in Morocco

By    |   Monday, 08 June 2015 06:57 AM EDT

Jennifer Lopez has been sued by an education group in Morocco that's blaming the singer's skimpy outfits and sexy dance moves for inciting a near revolution last month.

According to the BBC News, Lopez performed at the Mawazine Festival Rhythms of the World in Rabat, Morocco, May 29 in a show that was also broadcast nationally throughout the country. But the concert constituted a "breach in public decency," according to the Justice and Development Party in the Muslim nation.

Lopez's revealing wardrobe and dancing allegedly "disturbed public order and tarnished women's honor and respect," TMZ reported.

"The concert featured all the hallmarks of what we'd call a typical J.Lo show — sexy dancing, skimpy outfits, appropriate emphasis on her a** and her dancers' a**es," wrote TMZ. "Problem is . . . according to this lawsuit, all those things have no business airing on Moroccan TV."

Lopez's concert performance now has Moroccan officials calling for the resignation of Mustapha Khalif, the country's minister of communication who signed off on the national broadcast, according to the BBC News.

Lopez's show, though, was initially praised by festival organizers in a statement after her concert.

"The R&B diva, Jennifer Lopez, performed a memorable show, worthy of her best performances," Mawazine Festival organizers said. "Artist of all records, selling over 55 million albums worldwide, presented her greatest hits, including the famous 'Jenny from the Block' sung by a crowd of fans. Named (one of the) most influential personality of the music world, by Forbes in 2012, J-Lo has beautifully shown that she still remains one of the most famous and most talented Latino artists."

For his part, Khalif said in a Twitter post that he planned on contacting the country's 2M television's ethics committee to talk about the concert, noted the BBC News, stating: "What was broadcast is unacceptable and goes against broadcasting law."

The charges against Lopez could be serious, as TMZ noted that the best-selling artist and her promoter could get anywhere from one month to two years in prison if convicted.

BBC News reported that Pharrell Williams, Usher, Placebo, and Maroon 5 also performed at the Mawazine Festival.
