'Jeopardy' Contestant's Answer Called 'Creepy,' Internet Vilifies Him

By    |   Wednesday, 08 April 2015 08:08 PM EDT

A Jeopardy contestant’s awkward answer during Friday’s episode quickly went viral with some calling it the creepiest Jeopardy answer ever.

The contestant named Tom answered “What is the age of consent?" to the clue: "In common law, the age of this, signaling adulthood, is presumed to be 14 in boys and 12 in girls."

The correct answer was “puberty.”

The response freaked out the Internet, but E! Online offered that the “common law” portion of the question was confusing.

“It isn't unheard of for game show contestants to give embarassingly incorrect answers when under the pressure to buzz first, but Tom's answer must have left things feeling slightly awkward in the TV studio,” The Daily Mail said.

Twitter users seemed horrified by the response.
