Jerry Seinfeld: Mets Game Against Giants to Be Called by Comedian

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will be in the broadcast booth to call the Mets-Giants game at Citi Field in Queens on Tuesday.

How else can you draw interest in a game between a pair of teams that are a combined 27 games under .500?

This isn’t the first time Seinfeld, a longtime Mets fan, has called a game. His debut in the broadcast booth came June 23, 2010, when New York took on the Tigers.

“This is a gigantic thrill and an honor for me,” Seinfeld said after he was introduced, according to Bleacher Report.

He then went on to poke fun at everything from outfielder Johnny Damon’s lack of range to infielder Jeff Francoeur’s teeth.

He is expected to join Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, and Ron Darling for Tuesday’s game.

Much to Seinfeld’s dismay, Darling was missing from the booth the last time the comedian helped call a game.

He joked about the absence at the time.

“This is like I’m working with Groucho and Chico and no Harpo. Where’s Harpo?”

Hernandez and Seinfeld have a history, as the former Mets first appeared on the hit comedy series in Season 3.

The Giants are battling the San Diego Padres to stay out of last place in the National League’s Western Division, though their chances of becoming just the second team to go from World Series champion to cellar dweller got a boost after taking three out of four from the Dodgers in Los Angeles in a series that concluded Sunday.

The Mets haven’t been much better. With a record of 67-82, they are 22 games back of first-place Atlanta.

The Associated Press noted that Seinfeld also will appear on the pre-game show.
