Jesse Jackson Jr., the disgraced former U.S. congressman from Chicago, was released from a Baltimore halfway-house after three months on Monday.

According to The Associated Press, Jackson returned to his family home in Washington, where he'll remain under home confinement with an ankle monitor until September 20.

"This is the midpoint in an extraordinary journey for my family. My body is slowly being released from the Bureau of Prisons," Jackson told ABC affiliate WLS-TV

"For most of my life I've had the wind at my back, I've had a tail wind, I've never really confronted headwinds. This journey has been a headwind experience for me . . . There's no excuse for poor behavior, however, I've experienced some things on this journey that I'll write about and decided the rest of my life to."

Upon completion of his home confinement, Jackson's wife, former Chicago city council member Sandi Jackson, will spend roughly a year in prison for convictions related to her husband's.

Jackson spent two and a half years in prison after being convicted of spending $750,000 in campaign money on personal items. According to court documents, the Jacksons spent campaign money on fur capes, mounted elk heads, a $43,350, gold-plated men's Rolex watch, Bruce Lee memorabilia, and $9,587.64 on children's furniture.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson reported that his son is "doing really well," and is "close to permanent release."

"He is emotionally and physically strong. His family is delighted, and so are we," the Reverend added.
