Jessica Lange, who led the first four seasons of "American Horror Story," will not be returning for the show's fifth cycle, the actress confirmed this week.
“Yes, I’m done,” the 65-year-old said during “American Horror Story's”
PaleyFest panel Sunday, Deadline reported. “We’ve had a great run here. I mean, I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and [creator] Ryan [Murphy] and the insanity of shooting it.”
Lange’s roles on the show have included a washed-up Southern belle, an acerbic nun, a dominant witch, and a German carnival ringmaster. She has netted two Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a SAG award over the course of her "AHS" career.
The fifth season, “American Horror Story: Hotel,” will star Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, and Cheyenne Jackson.
Bomer tweeted about the role on Sunday.
Bomer enjoyed a guest appearance on “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” which led to a regular role on the show’s next season, which is slated to
premiere in October, according to People magazine.
“When you showed up on set it was like arriving at this community and it felt like this world where there was no boundaries,” Bomer said. “I had the time of my life and I told Ryan that. He said, 'Great, do you want to come work next season?' And I said, 'Hell yes.'"
Jackson said he’s excited to appear on the show, but doesn’t know anything about his
role yet, Entertainment Weekly reported.
“I’m absolutely nervous, but I’m really excited,” he said.
Twitter users expressed disappointment that Lange won’t return to the show.
