Jim Carrey had no idea the can of worms he was about to open when he poked fun at Shia LeBeouf's plagiarism scandal at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards.
The comedian took the stage to present the award for "Best Motion Picture — Comedy or Musical" and started off with this gem:
"Dying is easy. Comedy is hard. I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that. So young, so wise."

The joke was a dig at LeBeouf's recent copyright infringement controversy. Last month the 27-year-old actor's short film, "HowardCantour.com," was released online and immediately became the target of plagiarism claims when it was revealed that the dialogue and storyline was almost an exact recreation of graphic artist Daniel Clowes' comic, "Justin M. Damiano."
To make matters worse,
LeBeouf apologized with a tweet that was found to be partially copied and pasted from a Yahoo! Answers forum. He then posted a string of other plagiarized apologies, apparently trying to mock the entire situation, before announcing last week that he is retiring from "public life."
He temporarily came out of "retirement" this week, though, to respond to Carrey's Golden Globes joke with more bizarre tweets.
The nonsensical message was apparently a paraphrase of something Carrey said about comic Andy Kaufman back in 1999 when he was
promoting "Man on the Moon," according to Entertainment Weekly.
LaBeouf also tweeted the following messages before deleting them:
"At least I don’t get arrested for indecency on major LA highways! Or abandon love child's."
"Jim Carrey states that he is deeply involved in his daughter’s life — I accept that, regret tweet on the matter. Apologies to both parents."
Both tweets were rip-offs of News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch's 2012 apology to actor Hugh Grant, whom he also
accused of fathering a love child, The Guardian reported.
LaBeouf, who's apparently trying to send some sort of message by plagiarizing everything he possibly can now, ended his tirade with the following sentiment:
