Joan Rivers fans waited for an update on the comedian's condition as she remained hospitalized over the holiday weekend, and a source close to her family confirmed this week that, "She's getting better."

"It's a slow process, but she's on the road to recovery," a source close to the situation told E! News, the same network that airs Rivers' "Fashion Police" show.

"She's getting better. Don't believe all this ridiculous speculation," the source continued.

Rivers, 81, was undergoing an endoscopy on Thursday when she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was quickly rushed to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she was reported to be in stable but critical condition.

Doctors had been looking at Rivers' vocal chords when she stopped breathing. She was sedated, but the type of medication used was not reported.

Upon hearing the news, Rivers only daughter, Melissa Rivers, and grandson Cooper flew from Los Angeles to be by the comic legend's side.

"She is a rock. She is calmer than I've ever seen her," the source said of Melissa. "All these reports about doomsday are not true. She is her mother's daughter and she's tough as nails. She's the person keeping everyone together. She's focused on one thing: Her mother's health."

The New York Daily News spoke with another anonymous source claiming to be near the family, who said Rivers had been put in a medically-induced coma, and was slowly being brought out of it.

"The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday," said the source. "There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair."

The source claimed the Rivers family was very upset, and considering a lawsuit.

"The night before, she was performing and now she is on life support. An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient. Very ill-advised" the source explained.

Fox News reported that a scheduled taping of "Fashion Week" timed for New York's fashion week has been canceled until further notice.
