Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, died Wednesday in Los Angeles at the age of 89, after a long fight against cancer.
Family sources confirmed to TMZ that Joe Jackson died at 3:30 a.m.
The Jackson family patriarch was reportedly hospitalized earlier this month with a terminal illness, which sources said was stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Last week, his son Jermaine Jackson said family members were struggling to get information about his condition.
"No one knew what was going on — we shouldn’t have to beg, plead and argue to see our own father, especially at a time like this," he said, according to the Daily Mail. "We have been hurting. We were not being told where he was and couldn’t get the full picture. Even from the doctor. My mother was worried sick."
The Daily Mail reported that Joe Jackson had instructed that he did not want family members to visit him in the hospital or to see his medical records.
Jermaine Jackson dismissed these wishes, stating that his father was "very, very frail" and did not have long.
"The family needs to be by his bedside — that's our only intention in his final days."
Joe Jackson has been plagued by health issues over the years, having previously suffered several strokes, the most recent occurring in 2015, when he was hospitalized in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
He recovered from the incident before his health began to wane in 2016, when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Family members were divided for years over legal battles, jealousies, arguments over money and estrangements.
Joe Jackson is survived by his estranged wife, Katherine, and their children Maureen, 68, Jackie, 67, Tito, 64, Jermaine, 63, La Toya, 62, Marlon, 61, Randy, 56, and Janet, 52, People noted.
