Senator John Glenn (D-Ohio), a revered astronaut turned dedicated senator, passed away on Thursday in his home state of Ohio at age 95.
Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth aboard NASA's Friendship 7 in 1962, then was elected in 1974 to Ohio senator and went on to serve four terms. Years later he again broke records for NASA, becoming the oldest person in space at age 77 aboard NASA's shuttle Discovery in 1998. Prior to that, he fought in 149 missions as a pilot in World War II and Korean War.
