Johnny Manziel told police his 2015 Nissan GTR was t-boned in a hit-and run wreck, reported
The Associated Press, the latest incident for the former Heisman Trophy winner who was released by the Cleveland Browns and is facing a misdemeanor assault charge.
Manziel told Dallas Police the accident happened Monday night.
TMZ first posted photos of Manziel's wrecked car on Wednesday, saying the driver's side was "completely smashed in."
"Multiple sources tell us the car appeared Monday night at a Dallas apartment complex where Manziel is supposedly staying ... looking like it had been T-boned," said TMZ, adding photos it obtained showed that the driver's side airbag was deployed.
"We've confirmed the car is still registered to Manziel. We don't know how it happened, who was driving, or if Manziel was even in the car at the time. Cops tell us they have no record of a crash involving Manziel," TMZ said.
Dallas Police Senior Cpl. DeMarquis Black told the AP that Manziel presented a witness who was in his vehicle and an impartial witness in reporting the accident. Denise Michaels, the former quarterback's spokeswoman, told the AP that Manziel said he struck his head but didn't suffer a concussion or any other injury.
Last month in connection with his assault case, Dallas County Criminal Court Judge Roberto Canas ordered Manziel not to have any contact with former girlfriend Colleen Crowley and not to carry carry a firearm, reported
USA Today.
Manziel, 23, has a docket hearing scheduled for Friday, where his attorney Bob Hinton said the ex-quarterback will plead not guilty, said USA Today. A grand jury indicted Manziel in April on the misdemeanor charge, which comes with a maximum one-year jail sentence and $4,000 fine if convicted.
Crowley has accused Manziel of hitting her numerous times after they left a Dallas bar on Jan. 30, where he also threatened to kill her, according to an affidavit that was part of a February protection order application, said USA Today.
TMZ reported in April that Manziel was involved in another car crash, in Los Angeles on the Sunset strip when he was a passenger in a Mercedes-Benz S550 that slammed into pole. Police said they believe his friend Ryan Silverstein was driving the vehicle, noted TMZ.
The Cleveland Browns cut Manziel in March after two disappointing seasons there and he lost his agent, according to
CBS Sports.
"Manziel's tumultuous two seasons with the Browns were characterized by excessive partying, false promises, lies, offensive photos and videos, a 10-week stay in rehab, possible domestic violence charges and very little production on the football field," wrote Mary Kay Cabot who covered the Browns for the
Cleveland Plain Dealer.
"Manziel partied from coast to coast in his rookie season, turning up in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Austin and Dallas on a regular basis. … The Browns kept insisting publicly that Johnny was just being Johnny, but privately they were very concerned about his off-the-field antics."
