Jon Gosselin took a job as a cook at a T.G.I Fridays and then took to the radio airwaves to explain why, telling
103.7 Dallas that his passion for cooking drove him to it.
The former reality star called in to the Kannon & Sybil show to confirm rumors he had taken a job as a "chef "at the restaurant in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and said he does it for enjoyment, adding he gives his paychecks to charity.
"I love cooking, so my buddy calls me and asks me [because he] needed help in the kitchen," Gosselin said. "So, I'm like, 'yeah.' I'm really happy that TGI hired me for my cooking ability, and not for who I am."
"But I only work there two days a week, so I took my paycheck and I would just donate to charity," he said. "One week it was CMN -- Children's Miracle Network. So, I did it not for the money, I did it because I'm passionate about cooking. I really didn't make a lot of money there."
Gosselin told the station he's leaving the job after someone took a picture of him working there and sold it to celebrity gossip site TMZ, saying "now the trust and the teamwork is gone."
TMZ ran the photo and a story about Gosselin's job on Thursday, saying the former "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star "even had to go through chef boot camp."
Gosselin told
Us Weekly the job was "just a hobby. I don’t like sitting around."
General manager Scott Trompeter praised Gosselin's work.
"Jon’s part of our Friday family here,” Trompeter told Us Weekly. “He does a great job for me. He comes in and works and does the prep and he donates his paycheck every week.”
Gosselin said his work as a DJ is still his main job and is "going amazing."
