Jon Stewart returned to "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Monday to mock President Donald Trump and journalists over the president's apparent deteriorating relationship with some in the news media.
The liberal-leaning Stewart, the former host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," went into a lengthy takedown of Trump, charging that the president was lying every time he used the word "believe me," including a clip of him repeatedly using the phrase. He also bashed the media, suggesting that they take up a hobby – like journalism.
"Colbert addressed President Donald Trump and his hostile relationship with the media, which hit a new low last week when White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer blocked CNN, (New York Times), Politico and (Los Angeles Times) from an informal press briefing," wrote Lisa de Moraes, of Deadline.com.
"This, hours after Trump proclaimed his love of the First Amendment, insisting 'nobody loves it better than me,'" she continued.
"The two jokingly jostled for desk space in the segment that saw Stewart take aim at recent Trump statements, and he issued a pointed challenge to journalists," Variety reported. "With pen and note paper in hand, Stewart looked like he was enjoying a brief return to form from his 17-year 'Daily Show' run."
"It is time for you to get your groove back media, because let's face facts, you kind of let yourself go a little bit... obsessing 24-hours a day, seven days a week about this one guy," Stewart said on the show. "'What's Donny up to? Did he say anything about us? Do you think he's gonna come on our show?... And the whole time you're chasing after Donny, the rest of us are thinking, 'Can't you see he's an (expletive)?'"
"… Take up a hobby," Stewart said to the media. "I recommend journalism."
Stewart also appeared with Colbert on Jan. 31, to jokingly complain about Trump's first 11 days in office, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"It has been 11 days, Stephen," Stewart said then, noted the Times. "Eleven (expletive) days. The presidency is supposed to age the president, not the public."
Responses to Stewart's appearance on the "Late Show" Monday were mixed on Twitter.
