"Avengers" director Joss Whedon claimed Wednesday that he wasn't bullied into deleting his Twitter account by radical feminists this week.

Whedon, a self-described liberal, was an avid Twitter user, and has received intense criticism for alleged sexism since the premiere of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," last week, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Critics have said that the portrayal of female characters like Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, were ugly and sexist.

After Whedon deleted his Twitter account on Monday, comedian Patton Oswalt tweeted, "Yep. There is a 'Tea Party' equivalent of progressivism/liberalism. And they just chased Joss Whedon off Twitter. Good job, guys. Ugh." It appears Oswalt has since deleted the tweet.

In responding to the allegation that he was chased off Twitter, Whedon told BuzzFeed, "That is horse****."

"Believe me, I have been attacked by militant feminists since I got on Twitter. That’s something I’m used to. Every breed of feminism is attacking every other breed, and every subsection of liberalism is always busy attacking another subsection of liberalism, because god forbid they should all band together and actually fight for the cause."

Whedon claimed he left Twitter for the time being so that he could concentrate on his work.

"I just thought, 'Wait a minute, if I’m going to start writing again, I have to go to the quiet place,'" he said Tuesday.

Many Twitter users were skeptical of this answer, and "called horse****" on Whedon calling horse****.

Jonathan Chait of New York magazine wrote a lengthy article earlier this year that criticized liberals for increasingly cannibalizing their own, and was promptly attacked for it.
