Joy Behar Leaves 'The View' on Friday After 16 Years

By    |   Friday, 09 August 2013 09:04 AM EDT

Joy Behar will be leaving ABC’s "The View" on Friday after 16 years on the all-female daytime talk show co-hosting with Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, and others.

Yesterday afternoon, the 70-year-old preempted her final show by tweeting out a photo of herself with the show’s editorial and production crew inside the studio with the caption, "Thanks to all at "The View" for a great 16 years."

Behar was one of the original co-hosts on the show, which debuted in 1997 and is the fourth-longest running national daytime talk show. It has won two daytime Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Talk Show," and three NAACP Image Awards for "Outstanding Talk Series."

Walters, the show’s co-creator, is the last remaining original cast member on the show.

Minutes before posting her tweet, Behar jokingly suggested a possibly career path following her departure from the view to her Twitter followers: "Not sure what to do next. I was thinking porn for the blind."

In March, ABC announced Behar’s departure from "The View" via a press release in which the network stated it wishes Behar "all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season."

The same week, Walters also weighed into Behar’s departure from the show, telling Deadline.com: "Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season."

Weeks after the announcement that Behar would be leaving, ABC confirmed that the show’s lone conservative commentator, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, would also be leaving.

Hasselbeck left the show July 10, and is moving to Fox News Channel's morning show "Fox & Friends" this fall.

In mid-July, Walters announced that actress Jenny McCarthy will be joining "The View" as a co-host in September.
