Judy Sheindlin has entertained millions of viewers as "Judge Judy" but now her long-running show is coming to an end. The 77-year-old revealed the news on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which will air on Monday.
"I've had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS and it's been successful," she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. "Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary, and CBS, I think felt they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program. Because now they have 25 years of reruns. So, what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years worth of reruns."
But don't expect the judge to leave the courtroom. The celebrity jurist said she was "not tired" and will be taking on a new project, "Judy Justice," set to grace TV screens once the final episode of "Judge Judy" concludes.
Sheindlin explained that her original show will air for a full year with all new episodes.
"The following couple of years, you should be able to catch all the reruns that CBS has sold to the stations that are currently carrying '[Judge] Judy,' and 'Judy Justice' will be going elsewhere," she added.
In the meantime, Sheindlin remains involved in the political sphere. She has thrown her weight behind Democrat Mike Bloomberg for president and earlier this year ruled in his favor in an advertisement supporting his campaign.
Last week, Sheindlin boldly announced that she was prepared to fight anyone challenging Bloomberg, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.
"America doesn't need a revolution," she told Fox 25 while on the campaign trail with Bloomberg in Oklahoma City. "It's the most perfect country in the world and those people that are trying to change it and revolutionize it, don't have a chance, because I'll fight them to the death."
