Julia Louis-Dreyfus plans to return to “Veep” in August, now that she has completed chemotherapy for breast cancer, to finish filming the final season of the show, The Independent reported, after the actress accepted two SAG awards on Sunday from home in her pajamas.
The 56-year-old star revealed her cancer diagnoses last September via Twitter.
Production for the series was postponed in November while she underwent treatment, which now is now complete, her co-star Matt Walsh Walsh told Entertainment Weekly.
“Veep is on hiatus, we’ll start filming in August and it will air in 2019,” Walsh said.
“We’ve seen [Julia], she’s done some table reads, she’s doing well, she’s finished her last chemo, she’s in recuperation. Her prospectives have remained excellent throughout. She’s very well loved; she’s a tremendous person.”
Walsh noted that four of the final season’s scripts have already been written, adding that producers wanted to “make it the best season yet.”
He was also full of praise for Louis-Dreyfus’s courage to share her progress online, saying, “It’s a really unique, brave thing she’s doing just by being so out there with it.”
His words came after Louis-Dreyfus accepted two record breaking Screen Actors Guild awards from her couch on Sunday, Vanity Fair reported.
Although the actress could not be present at the event, she was quick to congratulate her team on social media.
“I wish I could have been @SAGawards tonight but have to admit it's pretty fun to watch in my pj's,” she tweeted.
“So honored to win. So proud to be a union member. So happy for my @VeepHBO bozos for winning ensemble award. Miss being at the table with you all. How was the chicken?”
