Julianne Hough and estranged husband Brooks Laich are officially going their separate ways after nearly three years of marriage. Hough filed divorce papers Monday at a Los Angeles court, according to People.
The "Dancing With the Stars" alumna and Laich tied the knot in 2017 but announced five months ago that they were separating.
"They were trying to work on things but Julianne realized she's happier having her freedom," a source revealed to the outlet. "Brooks tried to give it to her but he also hit his limit."
Rumors first emerged that the pair had hit a rough patch earlier this year, when they revealed that they would not be quarantining together during the coronavirus pandemic. Hough had chosen to self-isolate at home in Los Angeles while Laich stayed in Idaho. At the time, a source revealed to People that their marriage had "been over for a while" and that they were "perfectly fine being apart" during the pandemic.
"There is honestly no ill will. He loves her. She loves him. I can truly say they always will," the source said. "But they both understand they are not meant to go through their lives as husband and wife to each other."
The pair reportedly attempted to reconcile and were "working on their marriage." They were spotted out and about and even celebrated their birthdays together, but despite their attempts, in May they said they would be separating.
"We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate," they said in a joint statement. "We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward."
