June Foray has died just shy of 100, leaving behind her legacy as the voice actor who not only did the “Bullwinkle Show” but a cast of other favorite characters.
The news broke in a Facebook post by Foray’s friend, Dave Nimitz.
Foray’s career spanned decades and included an extensive list of accomplishments.
The Washington Post said she was the voice of Natasha Fatale on the “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show” in the ’60s, as well as Rocky the Flying Squirrel.
Foray also played Granny in Tweety and Sylvester cartoons, Grandmother Fa in “Mulan” and Cindy Lou Who in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”
Foray was considered the first lady of voice acting and pioneered the way for many other women to follow.
Variety said she also was a founder of the annual Annie Awards and pushed for the implementation of an animated feature category at the Oscars.
Cartoon writer and producer Mark Evanier worked with Foray on various projects and honored her on his blog as “the premier female voice talent of her era.”
He described Foray as “a talented workaholic who for decades, drove into Hollywood every weekday early in the morning and went from recording session to recording session until well after dark.”
“A lot of us are going to spend the rest of our lives bragging unashamedly that we got to know and/or work with June Foray.”
