A sequel to "Jurassic World" will hit theaters in 2018, Universal Studios announced this week, building on excitement around the summer’s biggest blockbuster.
The first "Jurassic World" pulled in more than $500 million in its opening weekend internationally. Just a month after its June opening, the movie is the third-highest grossing ever, pulling in more than $1.5 billion worldwide, and knocking "Avengers" out of
that position, CNN Money said. "Titanic" and "Avatar" hold the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Although few details are known about the sequel at this early date, CNN said there will be many who worked on the current movie returning in 2018, including stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. In addition, Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall will produce again, and Colin Trevorrow will write, but not direct, the next film.
The "Jurassic World" sequel will be the fifth movie in the 'Jurassic" franchise, the first of which came out in 1993.
