Justin Timberlake will perform at the White House next week as part of the star-studded "Memphis Soul" concert event hosted by President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

Timberlake will join Al Green, Queen Latifah, Alabama Shakes, William Bell, Steve Cropper, Ben Harper, Cyndi Lauper, Joshua Ledet, Sam Moore, Charlie Musselwhite, Mavis Staples, and Booker T. Jones for the April 9 event.

Timberlake, a Memphis native, rose to fame as a member of the boy band 'N Sync. His new album, "The 20/20 Experience," sold almost 1 million copies in its first week.

The concert is part of the Obamas' 10th "In Performance at the White House" since 2009. Billed as a celebration of music legends and contemporary artists, "In Performance" past acts include Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder with past themes like Motown, the blues, Broadway, and country music.

In conjunction with the April 9 concert, Michelle Obama will host 120 middle- and high-school students during the day for a workshop on "Soulsville, USA: The History of Memphis Soul." The panel will talk about the origins of Memphis soul, its top musicians, and its unique blend of soul and gospel music. Some of the scheduled musical acts will join in the workshop before their performances.

Some Twitterers are complaining about the concert, and slamming the White House for throwing lavish events but cancelling White House tours to save money.

The "Memphis Soul" concert will be broadcast on PBS on April 16.
