Kanye West tweeted his admiration to Emma Gonzalez, citing her as his "hero" and inspiration, but the Parkland school shooting survivor did not return his sentiment.
Instead Gonzalez, who is driving a renewed cry for gun control, showed West what the face of who she thought was a true hero by tweeting a photo of James Shaw Jr., the man who disarmed the Waffle House mass shooting suspect, and named him as her hero, the HuffPost noted.
Last week, West posted a series of tweets in which he praised President Donald Trump, who Gonzalez has openly criticized for his stance against gun reform.
This week it appears as if the rapper has made Gonzalez the center of his admiration.
One post, which contained a selfie of West captioned "inspired by Emma," garnered criticism from fans who could not understand which side of the aisle he was on.
West's second post, an image of Gonzalez who he called his "hero," drew backlash against the Parkland shooting survivor.
Gonzalez has considerable sway on social media, a point that was reinforced earlier this year when she surpassed the National Rifle Association (NRA) on Twitter, drawing more followers than the association she opposes.
Her deflection of West's praise served to strengthen her popularity among her followers, HuffPost said.
