Actress Kate Beckinsale doesn’t shy away from the controversy around her role in an upcoming film about Amanda Knox, but she was more than a little
nervous about learning to drive for the part, The Telegraph reported.
Beckinsale is playing an American reporter, Barbie Latza Nadeau, covering the Knox case in the film, “The Face of an Angel.” Nadeau wrote a book about the controversial case involving Knox, who was charged with murdering her roommate, Meredith Kercher.

The case is currently going through a second appeals trial.
But Beckinsale, 40, told the Telegraph she’s not worried about public reaction to the case; she is, however, worried about driving.
"I can’t actually drive, but then I got a call from my manager to say 'can you learn to drive in the next four days?'" she told the Telegraph. "I don’t think it would be a very good idea — I’d probably end up killing myself and others, especially in Rome. Maybe if it was Arkansas or somewhere it would be less daunting.”
Beckinsale told the Telegraph she is intrigued by the case and her role in the movie.
“The script was not what I was expecting,” she said. “Playing a bright woman is always a relief. I try to change tack often between big splashy action movies and smaller independent films.”
The movie focuses on the “media circus” surrounding the case, Nadeau told the Telegraph, rather than on guilt or innocence. The characters won’t be named Knox or Kercher, she said.
The case continues to intrigue the public, with daily coverage of the current appeals trial appearing worldwide. Last week, a
knife was revealed to only have Knox’s DNA on it, and none from Kercher, all but dismissing it as the murder weapon.
