Kate Gosselin is returning to TLC as the network has ordered another season of "Kate Plus 8," set to premiere in December,

"Kate Plus 8" makes its return off the strength of its "catch up" special in June, when the program attracted 2.1 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter..

"Though it's not immediately clear how many hours the network plans to air, they will be released over multiple specials set for a December premiere," wrote THR's Michael O'Connell. "This next spin on the series will follow a Gosselin family vacation, with Kate and the children traveling to Boston and other parts of New England."

People magazine said the new episodes will show just how much Gosselin's set of twins and sextuplets have grown on the verge of a new school year. Twins Cara and Mady are a year away from high school as they enter the eighth grade.

Their six siblings – Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel – will be bracing themselves for the fourth grade, People magazine reported.

People's Lynette Rice wrote that Gosselin's confessional moments during the two-part "Kate Plus 8" June special has helped in advancing the family's story and series.

"(It was) never my intent to portray myself as superwoman," Gosselin, 39, said in the special, according to People.

The original "Jon and Kate Plus 8" series still remains TLC highest-rating reality series ever, grabbing nearly 10 million viewers at the height of its success after it first aired in 2007, according to THR. The couple divorced in 2009 and Gosselin has been a fixture in the tabloid.

The rebranded "Kate Plus 8" was canceled in 2011 after poor rating numbers, noted THR.

Criticism of Gosselin intensified in January when an interview with her and her twin daughters on NBC's "Today" melted down when Mady and Cara struggled to answer questions from host Savannah Guthrie, even after prodding from their mother.

"There is no injury to begin with," Gosselin defended herself on "Today" when asked if she was hurting her children by exposing them to talk show and a television series. "I can't get them, at this age, at 13, to do anything they don't want to do. ... It's not like I forced them to do it."
