Kate Middle and Prince William left Prince George to play with wrapping paper as they and the rest of the royal family attended traditional Christmas services.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a tartan Alexander McQueen coat as she walked hand-in-hand with Prince William as the couple and about 30 family members made their way to church through gathered well-wishers, reported the Daily Mail.

The royals attended St. Mary Madgalene, the church on Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, according to Us Weekly.

Some wondered aloud where was Prince George.

"(Kate Middleton) told me he was having a lovely day but was more interested in the wrapping paper than the presents," well-wisher Cicely Howard told the Daily Mail.

"We've had a good morning with George and I can't wait until next year when he’s bigger," Prince William told the crowd. The newspaper said Prince Harry was still wearing the beard he grew during his expedition to the Antarctic earlier in December.

Us Weekly reported that 3,000 royal watchers started gathering outside St. Mary Madgalene at 4 a.m. Christmas morning to catch a glimpse of the royal family. The celebrity magazine noted that speakers were set up outside the church to play Christmas music.

The service was held at 11 a.m. and conducted by Jonathan Riviere, the rector of Sandringham, reported E! News. He opened with a rendition of "Christians, Awake" followed by "Once In Royal David's City."

During her annual Christmas message, Queen Elizabeth showed a never seen video recording of Prince George, now 5 months, during his October christening, according to HollywoodLife.com. The perhaps future king was also seen posing with his parents.

The celebrity website noted that the queen focused part of her message on looking back on how the family grew to include four generations of royals.

"As so many of you will know, the arrival of a baby gives everyone the chance to contemplate the future, with renewed happiness and hope,” the queen said in her message. "For the new parents, life will never be quite the same again."
