Katie Couric said Monday that she doesn’t have her eye on Brian Williams’ job at "NBC Nightly News," should it come vacant.
The newswoman, who left NBC in 2006 to move to CBS and now works on Yahoo’s Global News desk, was rumored to be interested in getting Williams’ job if he is ousted for fabricating a story about coming under fire in Iraq in 2003.
The
New York Daily News reported Friday that a source close to Couric said, “Katie still has deep, deep contacts at NBC. She would love to return as the ‘Nightly News’ anchor.”
"No one smells blood like Katie. She is like a shark," the source told the Daily News. "Brian is in deep trouble and this could be her chance. ... She has already made it clear that she is ready to have a meeting and get back into NBC."
But Couric wrote on Twitter that there was no merit to the rumors.
It is unclear what will happen with Williams’ job and if the network will let him go. This weekend, he announced he will be stepping away from the “Nightly News” desk temporarily.
The National Review pointed out that as the Internet was dominated by memes making fun of Williams and his fabricated story,
Couric did an interview with Lynsey Addario, a photojournalist who survived "harrowing war-zone experiences in the Middle East," the website said.
The headline on the Review article is “Katie Couric Profiles War Reporter As Brian Williams Squirms.”
