Comedian Katt Williams allegedly threatened a man with a gun at a nightclub in Los Angeles this week, and later fled the scene when police were called.

Williams was not performing Tuesday at West Hollywood's Comedy Store when the incident occurred, but TMZ reported that "Katt was inside the club when a heckler started talking smack about the comedian's height and race."

Williams was said to have responded angrily, pulling out a gun and threatening the heckler.

It's unclear who called the cops, but nearly six police cars soon arrived on the scene on the Sunset Strip. They secured the area, pointing guns at the club entrances as they went in to investigate. By then, Williams was gone.

LAist.com pointed out a Twitter post by comedian Chelsea Peretti, who claims she was being held inside the club while police presumably investigated and secured the area.

Police have not yet issued a warrant for Williams' arrest, as they are still investigating.

"There was some kind of dispute between Katt Williams and someone else at the Comedy Store," Sgt. Dave Valentine of the LASD told E! News. "The dispute carried on down the street at which point it is alleged that Katt pulled out a weapon and threatened the other guy."

On Wednesday, Williams spoke with TMZ, telling the celebrity gossip site that it would have been impossible for him to threaten someone with a gun because he wasn't carrying one. He said he was the victim, and was harassed by four men he believed to be gang members. Curiously, he said he believed it was the gangbangers who called the cops.

Williams has a history of run-ins with the law, and last year pleaded no contest to charges that he evaded police in Sacramento. He was sentenced to community service and probation. He was also arrested in 2006 for carrying a gun at LAX airport.
