Katy Perry Slammed for Singing 'Yesterday' at Beatles Tribute (Video)

Katy Perry performed in the Grammy’s Beatles tribute Sunday night, but social media smacked the star down for everything from her performance to singing the wrong song.

Perry performed “Yesterday” on “The Beatles: The Night that Changed America – A Grammy Salute,” and many took issue with her rendition. Some also were offended that she changed pronouns in the song. Specifically she switched the lyric "I’m not half the man I used to be" to "I'm not half the girl I used to be."

Many Beatles fans were eager after the fact to throw out names of stars who could have done it better. Adele came up, as did John Legend.

Some thought Perry should've done a more upbeat song.

There were a few people who stepped up to defend the pop star, though.

It’s not the first time Perry’s name has been uttered in the same sentence with the Beatles. In 2011, as she grabbed five No. 1 songs, she moved into territory formerly occupied only by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Mariah Carey.

“Last Friday Night” was her fifth No. 1 in a row.
