Kelly Ripa has tapped Ryan Seacrest as her new "Live" morning show co-host a year after Michael Strahan departed for "Good Morning America" full-time.
The former "American Idol" host has a history with ABC, hosting "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" since 2005. Ripa's show, which will be branded as "Live with Kelly & Ryan," had a string of guest hosts since Strahan's departure, including Jerry O'Connell, Fred Savage, and Scott Wolf, ABC noted.
Ripa, 46, teased the selection with a video she posted on Twitter Sunday.
Seacrest, 42, hosted Fox's "American Idol" for 15 seasons and also hosts two radio programs — "American Top 40" and "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," ABC noted.
"With Ryan, 'Live' has a new co-host who is a master of live TV, as well as a terrific interviewer with tens of thousands of hours of live broadcasting experience," said executive producer Michael Gelman, according to Deadline.com.
"When you combine those attributes with the talents and experience of the incomparable Kelly Ripa, you have two skilled and entertaining broadcasters, with great chemistry. Add in an experienced production team and a successful 30-year franchise and you have the perfect combination," Gelman continued.
Seacrest previously had a deal with NBCUniversal, where he contributed to the "Today" show and the network's Olympics coverage. While the show is taped at WABC-TV in New York, Seacrest's Ryan Seacrest Productions will remain based in Los Angeles, according Deadline.com.
The company produced NBC's drama "Shades of Blue," along with reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and several of its spinoffs.
"Ryan is a quintessential broadcaster and at the top of his game," Ripa said, according to Deadline.com. 'I am thrilled to start my mornings with him every day, and we are so fortunate at 'Live' to have him join the family. Ryan is a close friend and his star shines as brightly off camera as it does on. His tremendous success is only matched by his impeccable reputation. Plainly said, everyone loves him, and so will our daily viewers."
